DESA, Inc. to Begin Offering Engineering Services

  • COLUMBIA, SC — DESA, Inc. is pleased to announce that it is expanding its Construction Management Services division to include engineering services. The new line of service coincides with Daniel Lavender, lead engineer, obtaining his Professional Engineer (PE) licensure. PE licensure is the engineering profession’s highest standard of competence, a symbol of achievement and assurance of quality.

Lavender, a civil engineering graduate of Clemson University, has more than eight years of engineering experience and has headed up DESA’s engineering-related projects for more than three years. Having successfully completed the Principles and Practice of Engineering (PE) exam in May, Lavender can now prepare, sign and seal, and submit engineering plans and drawings for public and private clients on the company’s behalf.

Diane Sumpter, President and CEO of DESA, says, “I am very proud of Dan and his accomplishments. His hard work and diligence have resulted in this tremendous achievement. With his licensure, DESA is poised to offer a new realm of service which should effect organizational growth.”

Sumpter also thanks the City of Columbia’s Mentor Protégé Program (MPP) and URS for their assistance and mentorship. URS, DESA’s MPP mentor, contributed to the work experience required to sit for the eight-hour PE exam. “Working with such highly-respected licensed engineers has been a great benefit to our organization,” Sumpter says.

City of Columbia mayor, Steve Benjamin, says, “We congratulate DESA on its growth and Mr. Lavender on achieving his PE licensure. This kind of success is exactly what the City envisioned when it began the MPP program. DESA is proof that this partnership arrangement between the City, large companies, and small businesses does indeed work.”

To honor Lavender’s accomplishment and DESA’s growth in the engineering field, DESA is hosting a Drop-In onJuly 9, 2014 from 5 pm to 7 pm at its office located at 400 Percival Road office. Construction and engineering firms, as well as the public, are invited to attend.
